The franchise expo season continues, bringing me this time to Tokyo for the Japan International Franchise Show 2025.

The event is notable for its scale, with approximately 200 exhibitors, 400 booths, and around 25,000 attendees. It features a broad spectrum of franchise concepts, including robotics and automation, minimalist hotels, education, elderly care, child development, coaching, and distinctive food concepts—many of which are rarely seen elsewhere.

Food franchises are particularly prominent, occupying an entire floor and ranging from established global brands to emerging local concepts. Ramen concepts have a strong presence, highlighting potential opportunities for international expansion. Japan also showcases innovative approaches in burgers, beef-based concepts, beverages, desserts, and cafés.
Overall, Japan remains one of Asia’s most developed franchise markets, characterized by steady growth, strong domestic brands, and discerning consumers who prioritize quality and brand reputation.
Over the past few days, I met many colleagues and connections, including Jun Tsunoda from Gong cha Japan and Sean T. Ngo, MBA from VF Franchise Consulting.
This was an insightful event—Tokyo, I look forward to returning next year!
